Empathetic Leadership
Hello My Friends,
My name is Dr. Myrna Alayan. I completed my Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction in 2006. My dissertation was on the funds of knowledge of migrant children. I am also a writer. I wrote a memoir of my mother who was a pioneer in Puerto Rico’s 1940s Great Migration to the United States. During the past 25 years, I have been a public school teacher. Over and over I hear comments about teachers’ ineffectiveness, about the poor quality of public schools, and about how we are not closing the gap fast enough. After working in the East, the South, the Midwest, and the West, I can truly say with confidence that it is all in the leadership. Everyone can be a leader. Everyone should feel empowered to be a leader. I want you to follow me in this blog to understand why empathetic leadership is imperative in all arenas – public, private, government, and personal – for better performance, increased job satisfaction, interpersonal connections, personal and spiritual growth, joy in life, and mental and physical well-being.
